Andrew Novak.

Andrew Novak, Andrew Novak, Andrew Novak.

End of story.

Through three rounds, he’s performed the Vidanta Vallarta golf course as if it were a pitch-and-putt. On Thursday, he shot a four-under 67. On Friday, he shot a 61, which tied both the course document and his career-best rating. On Saturday, he was one shot worse, though a 62 is far from unhealthy. Added all collectively, Novak is at 23-under after 54 holes, and he’s main by a whopping seven photographs.

How’s he doing it? His putter, which he discovered in the back of his closet, put in play in August at the Wyndham Championship, and has been a godsend ever since.

“It’s rusted out, it’s old, but I know it works,” Novak said of the putter. “I don’t know loft on it, I don’t know the lie on it, but for the last four tournaments, I’ve done pretty well making putts.

“So I think possibly I was just overthinking some issues and yeah, I’ve just gone back to hitting putts. I might do some chalk line stuff now for begin line, but actually protecting it very easy and making an attempt not to overthink it.”

Novak will tee off on at 12:51 p.m. ET on Sunday alongside Matthieu Pavon and Doug Ghim.
