He might not have been at his sensible best so far, but Scottie Scheffler is effectively in the combine at the Tour Championship.
The world quantity one has been remarkably constant all 12 months and is many people’s selection for the Player of the Year award. But going into the playoffs, he had only one win to his title this season.

But Scheffler has discovered another gear in the last few weeks. He won the FedEx St Jude by 9 strokes, and completed T12 at the BMW Championship while struggling from hand, foot and mouth illness. This week he’s totally healthy, and he’s two photographs back of the lead through 36 holes.
At this level in the event, he’s the favorite to win it, and his report on the PGA Tour in this very state of affairs is ominous for the relaxation of the discipline.

Scheffler’s rating of eight under par places him tied for fifth at the Tour Championship, two strokes back of the main Viktor Hovland. And judging by his report, he’s overwhelmingly seemingly to go on to win at East Lake.

Of the last ten occasions the American has been in the prime 5 heading into the weekend on the PGA Tour, he has won seven of the tournaments. That’s an astounding quantity, and one that reveals that when he’s feeling it, Scheffler is almost inconceivable to stop.
He had a clean scorecard on Thursday at East Lake to put himself in a good place, but a few uncharacteristic errors with his irons during his second spherical stalled his charge up the leaderboard for a while.
But Scheffler recovered his type on the back 9 to shoot a 67 and keep himself effectively in the combine. He’s the FedEx Cup level chief and has the likelihood to win the playoff finale with two more days to play.
