Pope Leo XIV held his first public engagement since his lung cancer surgical procedure on Sunday, as he recited the Angelus prayer from the window of Vatican’s Apostolic Palace.
The surgical procedure had taken place just a few days before, after Pope Leo had been recognized with lung adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer.
After the prayer, he thanked the people who have prayed for him in latest days and said he appreciated the support. He added he will now steadily return to his commitments as he recovers.
