In a horrific incident, two Pakistani males allegedly gouged out their sister’s eyes and cut her ft off in an “honour killing”.
In November 2016, suspecting their sister of abduction, a pair of brothers — recognized as Muhammad Afzal and Mohammad Munir according to Pakistan-media outlet The Express Tribune — reportedly cut out the eyes of their 40-year-old sister, Shareefan Bibi.
Afzal had allegedly suspected the mom of 5 of being concerned in the kidnapping of his daughter, Asia, from Shehr Sultan village in Muzaffargarh, Punjab province, Pakistan. The Express Tribune reported Afzal had reported a case against his sister regarding his daughter’s disappearance.
Afzal and Munir had allegedly despatched the former’s son, Muhammad Aslam, to call their sister (his aunt) for a court listening to. While Shareefan was on her approach there, the three males allegedly caught her and gouged her eyes out with a sharp knife as effectively as cut off her ft before promptly working away from the scene of the crime.
The sibling duo allegedly used a “sharp knife” and sliced away their sister’s limbs before promptly fleeing the scene of the horrific crime.
Shareefan was reportedly taken to a rural health centre by a passerby after the grisly act, following which she was referred to Nishtar Hospital in Multan, where she was said to have been in essential situation at the time.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Shareefan’s daughter Nusrat alleged her uncles had wished to kill her mom as they had blamed her for the abduction of Afzal’s daughter Asia.
This is not the only case of honour killings in Pakistan that has made headlines. In January this 12 months, a father admitted to murdering his 15-year-old daughter after she refused to stop posting videos on TikTok, according to police reports.
Anwar ul-Haq, who had not too long ago relocated his household from the US to Pakistan, was charged with homicide following his confession that he shot his teenage daughter, Hira, in the south-western metropolis of Quetta. Despite initially blaming unidentified males for the capturing, the father later confessed to the crime, stating he discovered his daughter’s online posts “objectionable.”
Ul-Haq, a US citizen, is said to have banned his daughter from creating TikTok videos he deemed “inappropriate” and the household “had an objection to her dressing, lifestyle and social gathering,’ according to police.
Authorities had confirmed they were investigating the motives behind the killing, including the possibility of it being an “honour killing”. Hira’s dad’s brother-in-law had also been arrested in connection with her tragic murder.
As per reports by Human Rights groups, hundreds of mostly women fall victim to “honour killings” in Pakistan each 12 months. These are usually carried out by relations who believe they are defending their household’s honour.
