Social media has become a treasure trove for so-called “travel hacks”, with holidaymakers eagerly looking for suggestions from influencers on how to improve their journey experiences. Yet, specialists warn that not all online advice is dependable and should be approached with warning.
The newest viral sensation entails a traveller’s video, now considered over a million instances, where she shares her trick for getting an açaí bowl through airport security by freezing it beforehand. The clip has stirred up a debate among viewers, with one puzzled consumer commenting: “Wait, how did you get this through security?” While another cautioned: “Pretty sure this is still considered a liquid.”
Travel gurus are now chiming in with a stern warning about such practices. Netflights spokesperson Amanda Parker has clarified the scenario, stating that trying to sneak frozen liquids through security checks is not only futile but could lead to your food being seized or even a hefty wonderful.
“According to official government guidelines, you’re not allowed to carry frozen items in your hand luggage,” Parker pointed out. “Even though this açaí bowl is frozen, it’s still considered a liquid and security will treat it as a liquid.
“Your deal with may begin to thaw when you move through airport security, and if it exceeds the 100 ml liquid restrict, it’ll be going straight in the bin. Plus, the spillage while you carry it — not value the trouble.”
And for those jetting back into the UK, the beloved açaí bowl could cause more than just a mess, with UK customs potentially waving alarm flags over your baggage.

“There are restrictions on bringing food back to the UK, too. Meat, dairy, fish, fruit, veg, nuts and seeds are all no-nos,” Amanda cautioned. “You could face a £5,000 wonderful if you break these guidelines.
“As açaí bowls are normally topped with nuts and seeds, plus they’re dairy, it’s important not to freeze your açaí bowl for your flight home to the UK, as you could pay the price.”
