SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A former southwest Missouri teacher’s aide is now charged in federal court for possessing child pornography.

Makensie Koehler, 33, worked as a teacher’s aide for the Cassville School District and resigned in March 2024, around the same time the Barry County Sheriff’s Office began investigating her.

According to the federal complaint, a 16-year-old boy told Barry County deputies his friend bragged about being “in a sexual relationship with an older woman” and that he saw sexually explicit pictures on that friend’s phone.

Deputies say they obtained a warrant for Koehler’s Snapchat account and say they found multiple images of child pornography that included nude, sexually explicit images of a seven-year-old child that dated back to July and August of 2023. Detectives then say they conducted a search of Koehler’s residence and found blankets that matched the ones seen in the photos with the young child.

Authorities say they identified the child and conducted forensic interviews with her. She is scheduled to be in federal court for a detention hearing on June 27.

Koehler is still charged in Barry County with similar child sex crimes. She’s scheduled to be in court there next week.
