Tenerife is set for a important infrastructure increase with the construction of a new three-lane motorway, half of a main growth of the island’s primary TF-1 freeway.
According to the Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, the project represents an investment of €175.4 million (around £150 million) and is expected to take 42 months to full. The works intention to improve highway capability, ease congestion, and improve security on one of the most closely used routes in the Canary Islands.
The improve will focus on the Oroteanda–Las Américas stretch, a essential part linking several key city and vacationer areas in southern Tenerife.
The TF-1 is the island’s major motorway, connecting the south airport, coastal resorts, and main cities.
With visitors rising steadily in current years, significantly around vacationer zones, the growth is seen as important for sustaining mobility and supporting native financial growth.
The construction will start just after junction 64 in Las Chafiras (San Miguel) and proceed beyond junction 73 for Playa de Las Américas in the municipality of Arona, partially extending into Adeje.
The project consists of including a third lane in both instructions and redesigning several busy junctions, including Parque de la Reina, Guaza, Los Cristianos, and Las Américas.
In addition, the highway linking Los Cristianos to the South Hospital (TF-28) will be widened into two separate carriageways with two lanes each, offering direct access between the hospital and the TF-1.
The plan, ready by FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores S.A. and Trazas Ingeniería S.L., has handed all technical and environmental evaluations.
Officials say the project will scale back journey occasions, improve highway security, and strengthen connectivity between residential and vacationer areas across southern Tenerife.
They added that the motorway growth types half of a broader strategy to improve transport infrastructure, meet growing mobility calls for, and improve high quality of life for both residents and guests.
The remaining part of the TF-1 growth, between Las Chafiras and Granadilla, is still awaiting closing approval before construction can start.
