Opinion: Jackie Christie And Her Daughter’s Fight Is Troubling — And A Reminder Of Toxic Family Dynamics

Let me preface this article by stating that I don’t condone violence of any form, primarily when it happens between relations; however, I also don’t believe in being provoked repeatedly and being @basketballwives

For longtime viewers of the show, the rigidity between the mom and daughter comes as no shock, but viewers and followers of the show were particularly stunned by the combat between the two. In the launched footage, you can see them both in a heated argument. When Jackie decides to stroll away and not have interaction in the verbal altercation, her daughter approaches and later pushes her mom, prompting Jackie to slap her (we’ve all seen the viral meme at this level). 

This motion, of course, had the web in a tizzy, with many followers defending Jackie’s determination to strike her daughter, as they argued that she had been provoked, taunted, and spoken to disrespectfully by her daughter the complete season. I perceive that viewpoint, but I also have to think about why Chantel displayed this habits in the first place, which is a larger situation that’s missed – poisonous household dynamics and underlying trauma.

It’s no secret that both of Jackie’s daughters, Chantel and her eldest baby, Ta’Kari, have claimed to expertise neglect and emotional abuse in their childhoods, as it’s been mentioned all through the seasons and years as a salient storyline. Still, my query to Chantel is, why come on the show if there’s so much resentment towards her mom? Why not resolve household drama, damage emotions, and deep-seated trauma behind closed doorways and off-screen, with a trust therapist or family-trauma-based skilled?

The only reply I can come up with is that she might’ve needed her mom to really feel the ache, resentment, and damage she’d been carrying all these years, and for her emotions to be heard on her mom’s very public and non-public platform. Of course, I can’t communicate for Chantel or her sister, Ta’Kari, but it’s clear that they’ve skilled a traumatic childhood: from them both saying that Jackie wasn’t as current of a mom to claims of emotional abuse, they both appear to have a deep mother-wound.

However, both Jackie and Chantel need to work collectively to resolve their points, rather than resorting to screaming matches, dismissive walkouts, and bodily altercations. Chantel thought her voice and feelings would be heard and affirmed on a public platform like a actuality show, instead of doing the needed work with a therapist off-camera with her mom and household.
