But who emerged victorious 9 years in the past in Monte Carlo? Here is a look back at what occurred when Nadal and Ramos-Vinolas did battle in the principality.
Rafael Nadal won the last all-Spanish Masters 1000 closing
Nine years in the past, Nadal arrived in Monte Carlo trying to win a record-extending tenth title at the occasion. Returning to the closing, the Spanish icon defeated Kyle Edmund, Alexander Zverev, Diego Schwartzman, and David Goffin.
Standing on the reverse aspect of the internet from him was another Spaniard, Ramos-Vinolas. Making his Masters 1000 closing debut, Ramos-Vinolas defeated Renzo Olivo, Carlos Berlocq, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, and Lucas Pouille.

Ramos-Vinolas impressed on his means to the closing, but still walked onto the court a main underdog against Nadal. If he was going to win the Monte Carlo Masters, he was going to need to do something very particular.
Nadal was in no temper to let that occur, though, and dropped just 4 video games in a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win over his countryman. Nadal did not face a single break level as he won his tenth Monte Carlo Masters title.

“I think that he was a little bit better in everything. When he’s a little bit better in everything, the difference after it’s what we saw in the match. I think also I didn’t serve good. To be honest, I think he served really good today. Last time I played against him, I felt that on the return it was my chance to put some pressure. But today I felt that he was serving so good,” he said.
“I think he’s playing really good. Not his best tennis, but he’s probably at a good level. He beat some players easily, not just in the final. It means that he’s playing good.”
“I am satisfied with the way that I am playing. Is obvious that there are always things to improve. But being honest today, my serve worked great. Backhand, have been hitting very well the backhand during the whole week. The forehand better and better every day. So I should be happy about everything,” said Nadal when he was instructed about Ramos-Vinolas’ feedback during his press convention.
It’s always the motivation to play higher and higher. But I think we are in a very great way to keep successful matches. That’s the most important factor for me.”
