Los Angeles Rams star quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford hasn’t been shy about his intention to retire in the comparatively close to future.
While Stafford has loads more to offer on the soccer subject, he has been outspoken about not wanting to spend any more time away from his household (which consists of his spouse, Kelly, and their 4 daughters) than obligatory.
Stafford also revealed that his head coach, Sean McVay, performed a function in maintaining him from retiring, which he spoke about during an August 18 look on the “Youth Inc” podcast.
“I’m home every night for dinner when I’m in town. I’m there as much as I can when I have time off. And and I’m lucky enough to play for a head coach, Sean, that understands that, and gives me the opportunity to be around them as much as I can,” Stafford said.
“And I frankly wouldn’t still be playing this game if that wasn’t the case. And so I appreciate him for that, and my family for that,” he added.
“[My family are] my favorite thing, man. I run over to them on Sundays before games, and talk to them, and they give me great advice like, ‘Don’t get tackled!’”
McVay and Stafford are good buddies in addition to their skilled relationship. Rams followers are hoping that McVay can keep Stafford around for at least a few more seasons, while the staff’s Super Bowl window stays extensive open.
