Alexander Volkanovski relishes the gag — “Old Van Volk.”

The accompanying outfit consists of a cardigan sweater, a Peaky Blinders cap, and studying glasses. Maybe with a robust enough prescription to see into the not-so-distant future.

Even when he’s carrying UFC combating shorts, Volkanovski will invite the same questions before he takes on Movsar Evloev in a featherweight title combat during the fundamental occasion at UFC 333.

Is Volkanovski, at 38, getting to outdated to reign as the UFC’s featherweight champ?

Youth has arrived.

His next opponent, the Russian-born Movsar Evloev, is getting his first UFC title fight at 32.

This will be Volkanovski’s 12th UFC title fight, but the talk of dominance feels mostly historical. In his last two bouts, he beat Diego Lopes by unanimous decision in solid but unspectacular fashion.

Prior to those bouts, Volkanovski lost three of four fights – by knockout against Ilia Topuria and by knockout and decision to Islam Makhachev.

It might feel like old news. Or increasingly, it might feel like Volkanovski is simply getting old, with something to prove.

UFC 333: Volkanovski vs. Evloev card predictions

MMA Junkie: Yan wins

T.J. Dillashaw for MMA Junkie states, “I am leaning towards Yan. Tough combat. It actually is. I think he had all the solutions, and that confidence builds. He’s had some losses, but those losses were (bizarre). His losses are minuscule losses, and then that last combat, I think just builds so much confidence that he has what it takes. The reply for Merab, the cardio for Merab. I’m leaning towards Yan, but I think it’s going to be a banger of a combat again. Merab is never going to stop and you have to beat the bricks off him to win.”

CBS Sports: Alexander Volkanovski moneyline (-110)

Brent Brookhouse writes, “This is another combat where it’s probably the fighters see the scorecards, but at -275 to go the distance, the odds are too long for the column. Evloev has super wrestling and Volkanovski is 38, which both would normally be checks in the challenger’s favor. However, Volkanovski has good takedown protection and is not probably to be taken down and held there, and he’s been considerably ageless in a division where age normally catches up to fighters rapidly. I do not think it’s a good factor that Evloev has only fought once since December 2024, and while he could grind out an ugly win if his wrestling gets going, I merely think Volkanovski is too well-rounded, artful and used to combating at this degree to choose against him.”

Bleacher Report: Evloev by unanimous choice

Adam Kramer writes, “Volkanovski recovered properly after back-to-back losses with two wins, albeit both coming over Diego Lopes. Still, he’s 38 years outdated and probably to be pushed at a frantic tempo unless he can finish this combat early.

This one does not have to be all that difficult. If they keep standing, Volk wins. If Evloev makes it ugly, he probably does enough to win by choice. I believe he’ll do that, even if Volkanovski threatens all through. What a enjoyable matchup.”
