Gilbert Burns suffered his first defeat under the UFC BJJ banner Thursday evening in Las Vegas, shedding by first-round heel hook to fellow Brazilian expertise Gabriel Almeida.
The retired MMA fighter was victorious in his UFC BJJ debut back in June, when he tapped out Horlando Monteiro with a rear-naked choke, and returned to UFC BJJ less than a month after a tech fall defeat to Khamzat Chimaev under wrestling guidelines at RAF.

“Durinho” shot for a takedown early in the match and shortly escaped a guillotine risk from Almeida, but wasn’t in a position to do much from prime place. Almeida managed to get to prime place later in the spherical, going for the neck and before transferring on to a leg attack. Burns did his best to keep away from the place, but Almeida secured the heel hook for the faucet.

UFC BJJ 12 was headlined by two championship matches, with Cassia Moura scoring a cut up choice over Adele Fornarino to stay flyweight champion, while Renato Canuto defeated Ethan Crelinsten via unanimous choice in the co-main occasion to seize the vacant light-weight belt.
